Managing Director: Kevin Malouf
Kevin started his career in 1980 fresh out of St Josephs College, Hunters Hill as the youngest person to attend the Customs Brokers Licensing course at Sydney TAFE. In 1981 Kevin took up a position in Angus Customs and then went on to own the agency by 1984.
In 1985 Kevin successfully completed the Customs Broker Course and became a fully qualified Customs Broker. After another year of running Angus Customs Kevin diversified into the Freight Forwarding aspect of the industry and alongside partner Paul Pomeroy started All Cargo Container Line and ASEAN cargo services.
Paul and Kevin then teamed up with the WAKO group of companies through Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, India and China to expand into the International freight forwarding industry with WAKO’s owner Chris Wood. Chris Wood would later list the company on Wall Street.
In 1986 ASEAN moved out of North Sydney to Chambers Crescent, Mascot where the staff grew to more than 30 people.
Price and Speed Containers Pty Ltd was then founded with the companies main business selling used shipping containers obtained through the freight company ASEAN cargo.
Kevin Malouf is regarded as an innovators in the freight and container industry, particularly as he virtually created the market for second-hand shipping containers, which he saw as ideal storage on farms, industrial complexes or practically anywhere, there was a need for storage.
Throughout his years working within the Freight Forwarding and Customs Brokering industry, Kevin has been involved in Freight Forwarding and Customs Clearance, Transport and Logistics Warehousing of imported and exported goods. Kevin has also had significant experience as a client of the industry as he has also been an importer for many years.
Sydney Forklifts has been a beneficiary of Kelvin’s importing expertise.
“Being a Customs Agent and a Freight Forwarder and also being an importer of various products, I have had the opportunity to see the system work from both sides”
“In my latest fresh produce store I have designed and built a fresh produce holding container to facilitate the quick inspection and clearance of time sensitive fresh produce imports. The container makes it possible for a fresh produce shipment to be imported, fumigated and delivered within the same day,” said Kevin Malouf
Kevin has also travelled to China on many occasions and was one of the innovators in designing an Australian Two Pallet Wide Container capable of taking two chep pallets within a container side by side; this was designed specifically around the Australian Intermodal Freight Logistics Industry.
Freight Forwarders and other Logistics companies utilise these containers when they need to move palletised cargo between states by rail or road. The accommodation shortage in North Queensland and Western Australia also led Kevin back to China to manufacturer accommodation units, using the proven strength & size of shipping containers to form the template for personalised onsite accommodation.
Today Kevin is focused on and committed to growing his company through great service, quality of product and that personal touch absent so often these days.
“I feel our industry is losing its personal touch as Multinationals move in from overseas and public companies are buying out the smaller to mid range competition. I believe the personal service is comprised, to these companies you cease to become a person…… you end up being nothing but a number,” says Kevin Malouf.
“At Price and Speed Containers, our clients are treated as people with dignity and fairness irrespective of size.”
“My father always taught me your word is your bond and if you make a commitment to someone it shouldn’t have to necessarily be in writing to be binding. I guess I am old fashioned like this and I give our clients the benefit of the doubt because I believe that through trust, long term relationships are found”.
